The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1

The first Book of Chronicles

Chapter 1

1. Adam, Seth, Enosh; 2. Kenan Mahalalel, Jared; 3. Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech; 4. Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

(First Book of Chronicles chapter 1 verses 1 to 4)

Oh God, how nice it is to go back to our roots and discover our elders. We call it the family tree. On going back and reflecting on the time of their descent and the circumstances that took place in this period in we can appreciate more the positive traits of our elders. Moreover,  when going back we can also track psychological and even physical traits that have been in our line of descent and which we may have inherited without our being aware of. We can plot such traits in what is known as a genogram which is a very powerful assessment tool. This tool is helpful especially when a relationship is created because the couple can learn a lot about each other and about important traits that will probably emerge in the relationship such as patterns of cohabitation, stressful relationships, addictions and moreover even  success stories.

In order to view an explanation of this powerful tool please click on the following link:-

5. The descendants of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. 8. The descendants of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Diphath, and Togarmah. 7. The descendants of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.

(First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 5 to 7)

Oh God my Father along with this long list of family members, we can also add our own names and that of our family, for we also make part of this long list of line of descent leading to Your birth Amen.

8. The descendants of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan. 9. The descendants of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raama, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah; Sheba and Dedan. 10. Cush became the father of Nimrod; he was the first to be a mighty on the earth.

(First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 8 to 10)

Oh God when reflecting on our family tree we can stop and reflect over those members such as Nimrod who were in our good books but also those who were not so highly favoured. On looking back my God and Father I offer You each and everyone, those that have passed away and even those who are still alive and kicking or still breathing fire Amen.

11.Egypt became the father of Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 12. Pathrusim, Casluhim, and Caphtorim, from whom the Philistines come.

(First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 11 to 12)

Oh God my Father from the beginning of time You had been placing into place the seeds of a new generation since the time of the great flood, by populating the world. Therefore going back even if these names have no particular significance if we browse on the web we may find traces leading to our ancestors for instance when doing a little digging Philistia is equivalent to Gaza of today.

13. Canaan became the father of Sidon his firstborn and Heth, 14. and the Jebusites the Amorites, the Girgashites, 15. the Hivites; the Arkites, the Sinites, 16. the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.

(First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 13 to 16)

Oh God my Father You permitted us to be born at a particular time in the history of the world and of our family for a particular reason. Nothing, ever happens by chance, even the choice of the members of our family tree. Since and before the beginning of time the 'Master Plan' was already before You and You knew exactly when and where to place us Amen.

17. The descendants of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachsad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. 18. Arpachsad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber, 19. To Eber were born two sons; the name of the one was peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother Joktan. 20. Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21. Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22. Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, 23. Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the descendants of Joktan. 24. Shem, Arpachsad, Shelah; 25. Eber, Peleg, Reu; 26. Serug, Nahor, Terah; 27. Abram, that is Abraham.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 17 to 27)

Oh God my Father even though these names may not seem to have much significance on an individual level, however together they are the foundation stones leading to the birth of Abraham from which You chose Your line of descent. Even though our ancestors in our human family tree were not that positive, you and I who are praying on this biblical verse are chosen by God my Father to make a difference and break the vicious circles that our ancestors had been stuck in with Your help my God and Father Amen. You are able to free us from the roots of our past.

28. The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael. 29. These are their genealogies: the firstborn of Ishmael,  Nebaioth; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30. Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31. Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 28 to 31)

Oh God my Father, when going back to our roots as in the case of the book of Chronicles, we may learn alot about ourselves, and genetic material, and personal traits, that have been passed on to us, both the positive and the negative. In order to perform this self-analysis, it is best to make use of a genogram. In order to find out how this system  functions in order to obtain the fullest of this powerful tool please click on the following link:-

How to use a genogram?

32. The sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan. 33. The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the descendants of Keturah.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 32 to 33)

Oh God, my Father when reflecting Keturah would have been Isaac's stepmother. When considering that she replaced his mother, Isaac may have or had not such a good relationship with her or her children. Oh God, I pray for those of us including both my Mother and Father, who were brought up by their stepmothers. I pray for the healing of the loss of their own mother and of the favouritism that may have taken place between the natural offspring and themselves. I pray for healing from such circumstances Amen.

34. Abraham became the father of Isaac. The sons of Isaac; Esau and Israel. 35. The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. 36. The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek. 37. The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 34 to 37)

On reflecting oh God my Father we may ask why You inspired the Biblical author of the Bible to go into such detail and showering us with such a long list of names which appear to be boring. However in truth if we do not record our past part of our identity is missing. If we had no roots of Jesus one could easily refute Your human descent, but through this long line of descendants, the tribe from which You were to be born could be traced. Before the time of our birth, You also had chosen our line of descent, that of the person who would be our human mother, and that of the person who would be our human father along with the circumstances under which they would marry. Amen. I thank You my God, and Father for doing such digging and matchmaking until You gave me my human parents Amen, however, my real parent is You my God and Father and Your Mother Mary Amen.

38. The sons of Seir; Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. 39. The sons of Lotan: Hori and Hommam; and Lotan's sister was Timna. 40. The sons of Shobal: Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. 41. The sons of Anah: Dishon. The sons of Dishon: Hamran, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. 42. The sons of Ezer; Bilhan, Zaavan, and Jaakan. The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 38 to 42)

Oh God my Father even though I do not know and will probably never know my ancestors, if not by name I pray for their souls, for today we still carry in our DNA their good points and their not so good points, their good deeds and most of all their faith in You my God and Father, which although our faith may not be as strong as theirs however You have still been kindling the flame of faith throughout the years and been keeping it alive to the present day Amen so that You can use us to pass it on to our sons and daughters Amen.

43. These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites; Bela son of Beor, whose city was called Dinhabah. 44. When Bela died Jobab son of Zerah of Bozrah succeeded him. 45. When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites succeeded him. 46. When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him; and the name of his city was Avith.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 43 to 46)

Throughout the years oh God my Father, the world has experienced several world leaders of which some were agents of peace while others were agents of evil and war. I pray that You empower our world leaders with spiritual insights in order to rule according to Your will Amen.

47. When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah succeeded him. 48. When Samlah died, Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates succeeded him. 49. When Shaul died, Baal-hanan son of Achbor succeeded him. 50. When Baal-hanan died, Hadad succeeded him; the name of his city was Pai, and his wife's name Mehetabel daughter of Me-zahab. 51. And Hadad died. The clans of Edom were; clans Timna, Aliah, Jetheth, 52. Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53. Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54. Magdiel, and fram; these are the clans of Edom.

(The First Book of Chronicles Chapter 1 verses 47 to 53)

Oh God my Father one worldly leader dies and is followed by another who could be either better or worse than the previous leader, but You remain forever and can never be replaced Amen.

Oh God my Father I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God I pray for all the nations of the world, especially for those nations who are divided among themselves and have war or internal strife in their homeland so much that to remain living there may place them and their families in danger. Amen. On the other hand I offer prayers for all people in the world for they are all brothers and sisters and cousins, the world is one big family Amen.
